This post should give you a glimpse into my thought process. The subject is enemies for a new zone. Don’t get too excited, 80% of this stuff is not going to get used and will end up being a casualty of concept art. I’ll point out what does get pushed forward. Part of the reason why I love designing is that I push my hardest to make something really awesome despite the limitations. However, no matter how cool an idea is, pushing that hard will mean I’ll eventually have to pull back on my design. Sometimes an idea won’t fit because it doesn’t go with the theme of the area or the design is overly complicated and needs to be simplified or sometimes it just won’t jive with game play. But damn it, I like having fun so here’s a bunch of scratches on paper that led to an enemy design.
Cheers,
Caro

Here’s a rough start. I throw around a bunch of idea until I get something I like. I don’t want to give away too much about this zone, but you can see my general thinking was hooded/ cloaked, specter. The small inked image on the top was my favorite idea in this group and it’s the direction I head in next.

I redraw the design from the small black doodle on the last page. Not too happy with this one. The details or ‘cool parts’ just won’t translate well on a game screen version. Plus it’s too ‘Dead Space’ and in general not ‘old world ‘ enough.

I go back to what I liked about the original thumbnail design and start thinking about movement and game play roughly.
this wolfie doesnt fit atall with hte valdis stroy. i am also making a game and i get alot to this point which u are now, bein inspired by this and that, also having an idea out of the blue and just cant choose what to do, let me clear ur mind, 1st comes the original idea, then comes the judgment, then something comes out of that judgment of ur original idea. game creating is an art, and as artists you must feel not think, the thinkin process is just to express what you feel.
i dont know what is going to be this next area ur making and the enemys in it but whatever it is let it come out of the soul of ur game. out of the center of ur game, the base idea where everything started. if ur game has no center then it will lose originality and as natural u will have trouble findin out what to do next, how to do it. it doesnt rly matter what or how it will look, all that matters is that it comes from ur game, not a borrowed idea or inspiration, dont let inspiration lead u astray from ur way.
when u do smthin, whetever u do, u should be at eas, letin it go, dontr try, dont push it, let creativity flow. sry if it looks liek a lecture, i just love you and ur art and im just a reminder not to forget urself. 🙂
This is incredibly difficult to read.
I’m a software developper rather than an artist, so I guess my opinion should be taken with a grain of salt, but I played my fair share of games and don’t see why this couldn’t fit into the game.
I think it is neat that it doesn’t seem to have a face and that what looks like its cap looks like its face. Or maybe it is its face and it doesn’t have a tangible lower jaw which works given the fact that it also doesn’t have tangibles arms or legs.
Either way, cool concept imho.
Can’t wait to play Vladyns btw :).
These concept sketches are so good, the colour one is fab! Well done
Good efforts. All the best for future mails.
These are very interesting sketches , the first one looks strangely like a demon equivalent to the Magus
When are the other two playable characters coming?
They will come one at a time, first Vladyn then Gilda. Vladyn’s update is well on it’s way we’re working hard on it everyday. He’s coming with additional content. Thanks for waiting so long!
This is exciting =O
I’m super excited for the new characters, but I wish I could throw money at it to make it happen faster.
Speaking of, when I can throw money at you for your next game? I can’t wait years!
